Film training
This year we have delegated £3.25 million of our Lottery grant to Skillset - the Sector Skills Council for the Creative Media.
Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for Creative Media, is our partner on skills development and training in film. Skillset is responsible for all of the UK Film Council's new training awards.
A Bigger Future 2
In 2004, Skillset and the UK Film Council launched A Bigger Future – the first comprehensive training strategy for the UK film industry. Over five years, measures worth around £50 million in total were rolled out to help build a bigger and better future for the UK film industry.
Now in its second phase, A Bigger Future 2 aims to continue ensuring the UK film workforce is as highly skilled as possible so that the industry can continue to compete successfully in the global marketplace. In 2009, Skillset consulted once again with the film industry and identified the five key priorities for the UK film skills strategy:
- Training in new technologies;
- Improving business skills;
- Developing creative talent;
- Supporting new industry trainees;
- Enhancing health and safety skills.
Skillset Film Skills Fund and Fund Bursaries
The Film Skills Fund (FSF) is the largest fund in the UK dedicated to supporting film-specific training. The fund awards grants to:
- Organisations to develop, facilitate and deliver film related training and development activities;
- Individuals who need financial support through bursaries to attend a training course.
